Coronavirus Update: Preventative Health Measures

We're Here With You
V+B exists to make healthy living easy.  And as part of our extended V+B family, your health and well-being are always our highest priority. Given the recent outbreak of COVID-19, we want to provide an overview of the proactive approach and additional measures we’re taking to prevent the spread of the virus. As more of the DMV region adopts shelter-in-place initiatives, people have been advised to remain home and many businesses have had to temporarily stop their operations. V+B is thankful to be considered an essential business within these new guidelines, and we will continue to operate as long as it is safe and healthy for our customers, team, and vendors.

Information on COVID-19 and Food
For the most up to date information on COVID-19 in general, visit the World Health Organization website.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there is no evidence or reports that show transmission of COVID-19 through food or food packaging.

The spread of COVID-19 is not in line with a foodborne illness outbreak, which the U.S. Food & Drug Administration defines as two or more people getting the same illness from the same contaminated food or drink.

Our Response
We are always diligent when it comes to food safety and handling practices. In fact, we follow a set of internally established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) that are more rigorous than what the D.C. Department of Health requires.

We are taking the following precautions along our entire supply and production chain to keep everyone safe:

  • Supplier Communication: We ensure that all of the ingredients that come in our facility are from purveyors who are following the CDC guidelines and adhering strictly to their GMPs.

  • Food Safety + Handling Practices: In addition to our Food Safety Program and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures, we are emphasizing the critical importance of hand washing, frequent changing of gloves, and surface sanitation.

  • Kitchen Production Practices: Although food is not a proven transmitter of the virus, we are taking extra precaution and require face protection for our kitchen employees (note: these are extended hair nets and not face masks that healthcare workers require).

  • Maximizing Social Distancing: Staff are required to stand at least six feet apart while in the kitchen, and office staff are working remotely whenever possible.

    • Team Wellbeing: As always, all team members must report to their manager any symptoms caused by illness, infection, or other source that is associated with an acute gastrointestinal or respiratory illness, prior to entering any premises for work.  If a family member of one of our team members becomes infected with COVID-19, our team member must notify his or her supervisor and will be required to stay home.

  • Packing Meals: All employees who handle meals, from the kitchen until the meal is in a bag are always wearing gloves and washing hands frequently.

  • Delivery Precautions: All of our drivers wear gloves throughout their delivery route, and use a contactless delivery process. We have expanded our delivery window into the late morning to accommodate customers whose buildings cannot accept packages, or who do not want a building employee to handle their bag.

  • Bag Sanitation: Bags and ice packs have always been sanitized by an employee wearing gloves. As an extra precaution, we will not reuse any of these items within 72 hours.

How We’re Helping

  • Meals For Those In Need: We are donating food to healthcare workers in local hospitals, and offering reduced-cost meals to those who are facing financial hardship.

  • Local Small Business Partnerships: We are working with local food businesses—who have seen a significant impact—by purchasing ingredients or other products when possible.

FAQ

  • I feel better eating cooked meals, can you accommodate that?
Although there is no evidence to suggest that the virus can be transmitted through food/food packaging, we absolutely understand your concern and are more than willing to accommodate your preferences. If you would like to request meals that are only meant to be reheated, please contact us here.
  • My front desk doesn’t accept food deliveries anymore. How can I get my V+B food?
We are expanding delivery window beyond our 1-7 AM deliveries to include a second window between 8 AM-12 PM. We will also be including a delivery notification to let you know when the driver is close by. All deliveries will remain contactless. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us here.
